Tap Density Tester

The PT-TD200 Tap Density tester measures the tapping or bulk density or apparent volume of powders or granules. Unlike the PT-TD1 Tap Density tester this instrument can be used to test in compliance with the monographs of the USP <616, Method 1 and 2> as well as with the EP <2.9.15>. The PT-TD200 tap density tester automatically detects in which position the cylinder dish is placed and adjusts speed and tapping height automatically. It is equipped with a LCD display and a touch sensitive keyboard for data entry. The PT-TD200 Tap Density Tester is equipped with a multiple interface board offering a RS232 COM port to connect a PT-DL1 serial printer and a USB Port to connect the instrument with a PC for updating ect. The PT-TD200 offers product and method filing, user administration and printer connection for test and qualification report printing.

The test itself is quite simple. Typically a predetermined amount of the sample, normally 100 gr +/- 0.1% is placed in a graduated cylinder and the unsettled volume noted. The graduated cylinder is secured to the test platform of the tester and the sample it tapped at the specified rate/drop for a set number of taps or time. The resulting tapped volume is measured and then the sample is tapped again until there is no significant difference in the volume (typically 2%). The final reading is taken and this is used to calculate the tapped density in grams per mL
